Vadodara: One of the paintings by noted artist Bhupen Khakhar, which is now owned by architect Karan Grover, will be exhibited in London and Berlin. The painting titled 'Sakhibhav' will be displayed at the exhibition titled 'You Can't Please All' at the London-based Tate Modern art gallery for six months.
The painting will be displayed at Tate Modern gallery between May 31 and November 16 this year.
The same painting will also be on display at the Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle in Germany between November 17 and March 5 next year.
Grover had acquired the painting from the artist in 1995.
"Tate is an internationally acclaimed museum and it is a matter of honour to have a Baroda artist's work displayed there. I have a personal connection with the painting as I have seen it being created by the legendary artist," said Grover, who has 11 works of Khakhar.
"When I saw Khakhar making the painting, I told him that I wanted to buy it. He dedicated the painting to me and made the letter 'ka' in Hindi on the painting before handing it over to me. His works are beyond geographical boundaries and they continue to attract admirers," added Grover.
Khakhar's paintings can be found in several public collections including that of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and in many private collections as well. His works have been exhibited across India and the world.
He is remembered as an iconoclast and a maverick, a man who never did what was expected, and who was open about his views on everything - from social sectarianism to his own homosexuality, all of which are reflected in his works.
